Ticking Off the Bucket List

All top travellers have one. If you haven’t got one yet, there’s no time like the present. Yes we’re talking about a bucket list. That collection of the world’s top places you just have to visit. Remember, it’s your list; no one else’s. It’s those places that you as an individual have to see.

Yes it’ll be different to the next person’s, but that’s the beauty of travelling. It’s all about your own experience. So, we’re not about to tell you what should be on your list, it’s just a collection of our own, brought to you by Virgin Money Travel Insurance.

Egypt

It’s one of the top tourist destinations for UK holidaymakers. But whilst the sun, sea and sand of Red Sea resorts like Sharm el Sheikh promise much of what you’d want from a beach holiday, too many are ignoring the real jewel in the crown; Ancient Egypt obviously. Head to the Giza Plateau to marvel at the Pyramids and the Sphinx, before taking in a Nile cruise and the Valley of the Kings. Now that’s got to be top of any bucket list.

Cinque Terre, Italy

You might have though Rome or Venice would be top of your Italian bucket list, but we just can’t get enough of Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. Translated to mean five lands, this area achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 1997 and is made up of rugged terrain between the five villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Here you’ll find vineyards aplenty, traditional Italian culture and some of the most stunning scenery anywhere in Europe. It’s one not to be missed.

Easter Island, Chile

Easter Island (or Rapa Nui to give its indigenous name) is one of the world’s most intriguing places. Originally home to Polynesian settlers from A.D. 300; free from external influence they established an imaginative tradition of sculpture and architecture. This has lead to some of the most fascinating cultural landscapes anywhere in the world.

Lapland, Finland

Not only is this one of the most magical places to spend the festive season, visitors heading to Finnish Lapland between September and April are in with a chance of seeing the greatest light show on the planet; the Northern Lights. Seeing the awe-inspiring greens, blues and purples dance in the night sky is the experience of a lifetime.

Other top bucket list destinations include Patagonia, Nepal, New Zealand, the Maldives, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal; where will you go?
